Wilmington, NC, September 7, 2021 – Farm-to-Table is finding a permanent home in historic Downtown Wilmington. Better Basket, a unique local market that connects farmers and merchants of the Carolinas with the people of the Wilmington community, is slated to open its doors at 143 N. Front Street. The market has been in the planning and preparation stages for the better part of the spring and summer. Now, following painstaking attention to detail, Better Basket is extremely pleased to announce it will be opening its doors Tuesday through Saturday beginning Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Special preview events will be held on four successive Tuesdays following the open and will introduce new products and more.
The events are designed to not only introduce Better Basket to the community but enable residents of the Lower Cape Fear to become better acquainted with the local farms and facilities that will be stocking the shelves of the market. The goal is to be able to provide fresh produce, meat, cheese, and more to the community, while continuing to support the effort to revitalize historic Downtown Wilmington.
“The concept of Better Basket has been an idea in the making since the early 2000s,” said co-founder Joseph “Joe” Allen. “My mother and I had an idea that would couple a traditional grocery store with a restaurant. Downtown Wilmington seemed like the perfect location.”
Joe and his mother never saw their dream come to fruition, however, as she succumbed to cancer in 2010. Over a decade has passed since that fateful time and Joe is now approaching the Better Basket brand with renewed vigor. Along with business partner Frank Meares, the two have created a market boasting and unparalleled atmosphere, including a restaurant as the centerpiece.
Each week during the preview events, new items will be introduced and shared with the public. For more information, visit www.shopbetterbasket.com
